It’s time for una fiesta! All the students have been working hard, so now it’s time to do something a little different: Have a Dia de los Muertos Fiesta! We made Calacas – dioramas that showed a daily-life scene, but depicted skeletons dressed up. Then we voted on the best boxes. Here are some of the winners from 1A & 2A (2B to come tomorrow)! Congratulations to the winners for “Most Original, Most Creative, and Student Choice!!!:

Here are pictures of other awesome Calacas from my 1A & 1B classes:
Las clases de espanol are well under way now – in fact, we’re now in the process of preparing for presentations on two big projects this weekend, plus planning for a fiesta on Dia de los Muertos, the 1st & 2nd of Noviembre!!!! Estudiantes, be prepared to present your Calacas or Puppets (if you’re 2nd year, look for the rubrics on the SpII Projects page). Have them memorized, and bring your scripts on your presentation day. These are projects you DON’T want to miss!!!!

¡Bienvenidos y bienvenidas! Welcome, guys and gals! I am super excited to introduce you to the Spanish language, and guide you through the exciting culture of toros, tamales, and tango! I hope that you will learn to love the language and cultures and much as I do. But even if you don’t… that’s okay. You will still learn to stretch yourself in ways you never knew you could.
¡Vámonos!

We’re almost there! Tiempo para vacaciones y fiestas!!! Be sure and keep on top of your homework and projects. Pace yourselves: make time to study and to relax as well. In the next week you will all be given a grade slip to take home. This will include any missing work, so you can catch up before the end of the year. Cutoff for turning in late work will be May 22 for seniors, and June 5 for all other grades.

As we’re gearing up for Spring Break, which is only 3 WEEKS AWAY!!! (yippee!), each grade is wrapping up their time with a project and a cumulative Test or Quiz. Be sure to prepare for your presentations adequately! If you can’t find your project requirement paper, look no further!!! You can find your class project under the “Class Projects” heading. Scroll down till you see your grade’s sheet, then copy, paste, print!

Definitely time for an update on my classes. All is going very well in all Spanish levels. More pesos are exchanging hands than ever! And more candy is getting dispensed. If you would like to leave a comment on what the next favorite candy to stock the machine should be, feel free to add one! I’ll be paying attention and see what the favorite is!
PS. In the next couple weeks a camera will be appearing in the class to document some awesome Spanish moments. If you have questions or concerns, write me!

Little Naomi Gertrude has joined the Pelster family!!! Our 3rd baby girl arrived on Wednesday, May 26th at 8:18am after about 7 hours of labor. We chose to have a home water birth, and all went perfectly! There were no complications, the trained midwives were duly attentive and daddy caught the baby when she came. What a little chub too! I finally made a chubbier baby! She has a double chin and chunky little thighs. hehe She is perfect in every way. Weighs 8lb 14 oz, and 20in long, she loves to sleep and eat. Yep, that’s pretty much her routine! It makes me happy because I get sleep too! She’ll be coming to class to visit you all for the fiesta!!! WE’ll SEE YOU THEN!
Here’s classmate Cody making an impression with baby Naomi on her visit to class!
